Been doing some thinking today. Had a conversation at Annie Ks with a friend of many years. She was sitting with her daughter and we started talking about jobs and careers. It is funny to think of what we thought we would do job wise and what we chose to do. Read the last part of that sentence carefully.....what we chose to do. Each and every day I read post after post about someone hating their job, despising to go to work and wishing things would change. You know what folks? Every job in this life has its good and its bad. Me, I knew from the time I was 8 years old I would be a teacher. Took me a long time to finally get there. I had to do things my way. I worked in a factory as a material spreader. Worked a number of years as a bartender and was a pizza slinger for a couple of years. Each job had its ups and downs. Loved working in the factory. The people I worked with on a day to day basis gave me great joy and we had loads of fun. As a bartender the same. Loved meeting different customers, hated when out of towners came and ruined things for locals. Learned quite a bit about responsibility from Randy and Mary Woodward while making pizzas. I was 33 when I graduated from college and 36 when I was hired full-time. Im now 54 and every day there are things about my job I love and things about my job I hate. Yes, it is nice having a few weeks off in the summer to regenerate the batteries. But if you go into education because you get summers off, you will not like being a teacher. The best part of my job is seeing how students grow and change from day to day. Same with working in the medical field. If you dont want to be around sick people.......... See what Im getting at with this post? You are the captain of your own ship. If you dont like the voyage change the course. Stop focusing on the negative and look at the positive. Are you able to get out of bed and face the day? Good. There are some people who are bedridden. Are you able to take a vacation? Good. There are people who have never been out of Belmont County. Can you read these words? Marvelous. There are some people who are not permitted to be educated. Are you able to gripe and complain about your job, your life, your....... Consider yourself lucky. There are people who would be put to death for complaining about their job or their life. I will end this post like I end so many. These thoughts are mine. Not meant to make anyone mad or upset anyone. Maybe make you think a little bit. Remember.......if you wake up each morning......you are one step ahead of those who do not.
