Been listening to the Taj Mahal CD Señor Blues for the past two - TopicsExpress

Been listening to the Taj Mahal CD Señor Blues for the past two days during any slack time. His take on the Horace Silver composition [Señor Blues] is incredible! The bass line in that tune is really something. I bought this CD last year sometime. I think it was produced during the late 90s. The reason why I bought this one in particular was because of something that happened several years ago. I used to play some blues harp with the Rent Money Band down at Jeremy Higgins place --- Pastinos --- in Clearwater, FL, with Mike Pieper, Sam Drake, Johnny Dreamwell, and the late, great Binky Abernathy. Binky would often slip me CDs of copies of master cuts from sessions he was part of and similar types of situations. One day he handed me a tune called Having a Real Bad Day. He said, Hey, lets try to work this one into our set list. Id really like to sing this one. Im sure he gave a copy to Johnny and Sam and Peeps, too. Binky was a great drummer and a really soulful singer. Now every time I hear this tune, I obviously think of the Binkster. Having a Real Bad Day is one of the tunes on the Señor Blues album. Its a great record. As an aside, once when riding North on HWY 101 going to Sonoma County, I looked in the lane next to me at this beautiful metallic rust colored older Rolls Royce Phantom being driven by a beautiful woman. The passenger was Taj! I always wondered if this specific car inspired the name of The Phantom Blues Band. Ive never met Taj Mahal, but if I ever do, Im gonna have to ask him.
