Been playing Republic Commando on hard mode, and when this game - TopicsExpress

Been playing Republic Commando on hard mode, and when this game hasnt taken your squad away with you (it briefly becomes a shitty corridor shooter), its surprisingly good. The squad mechanics are very simple: context specific squad positions function as overt power-ups than strategic options, but the game requires you to be actively engaged with your squads placement and health. Its trial-and-error sometimes, but in a good way, where you have to slowly bend and experiment with variation before puzzling out how to effectively clear a room. Theres very little narrative pull here, but it doesnt pretend to have any. Stripped of attachment to the politics and morality of the film series. Completely unpretentious meat-and-potatoes squad shooter. Really enjoying it. One more thing: the original score material is so proper and fitting, that it really breaks my heart that they shoehorned in John Williams cues so generically the way so many SW games do (action sequences just randomly play an action cue, and at least half are from the film scores). That said, the main theme is the most effective and daring thing anyone whos not Williams has done with Star Wars music.
