Been thinking about two ladies that I met at the doctors office this past year. Both were real characters. One lady was about my age, same diagnosis, at about the same time. We both shared a similar naughty sense of humor, and tried to make plans to get together for a meal but it never happened for various reasons. The last time I saw her she was in the hospital and not doing too well. She passed away within a couple of weeks. I was not able to find out if she had a memorial service. There were family conflicts with her girlfriend. The other lady was a late stage breast cancer patient. She had a great vocabulary, loved to read, and had been a world traveler and also had taught herself to sew. We got together a few times for lunch and always had a good time. I got to drive her home a couple of times from the doctors office. We both shared July birthdays; and were able to wish each other a happy birthday. She celebrated her ninetieth on July 25 last year. A few months ago she moved to NY to an assisted living facility which was close to one of her daughters home. I just learned that she passed away 25 days shy of her ninety-first birthday. Today I needed another replacement cable for my cell phone and headed to Radio Shack. Next door to it I saw a lady sitting on a bench outside of Pei Wei. It looked like someone gave her some money. I decided that while I was nearby I might as well get a takeaway for dinner. I like their food as it always seems fresh and is tasty. I decided to pay it forward and ordered a meal for the lady. The cashier told me that she liked their fried rice and would get it when she had the 3 dollars. So I ordered that with chicken and a drink and a cookie. I asked the cashier to give it to her when it was ready. She agreed and told me to have a wonderful, wonderful day. I left there feeling very happy. So my intention is to start my birthday month off a day early and to celebrate it by doing something nice for someone every day. I cant do anything for my ladies who have passed away but I can honor them in a small way by doing a random act of kindness for somebody else.
