Been watching some shows on the BBC this weekend on Scottish Independence, it´s an interesting and complicated issue. I guess for me, if I was there I would vote yes .... just on the idea that there is a strong Scottish identity, and for years Scotland has been subject to majority rule from England through a democratic political system where England dominates due to population, and that revenues from scottish resources such as petrol seem to benefit England more than Scotland. However, there are a whole host of interesting issues, from, if Independence happened, what to do with British Nuclear submarines and missiles and the armed forces, the flag, if it would lead to calls for Welsh and Northern Irish independece, if the Prime Minister should resign if there is a yes vote, and how on earth you unravel the UK, with Scottish voters still helping determine the UK government in elections post Independence vote, in the Czech-Slovak devolution there were more than 12 000 agreements on all sorts of issues to allow devolution to happen. Reminds me a bit of the never ending Independence debate in Australia. I voted yes for a republic referéndum, but while the majority of Australians are for a republic, the problem has always been exactly what would replace a constitutional monarchy. The vote I voted in had a deeply flawed model, with the suggestion that a President elected by Parliament would replace the Governor General (apointed by the Queen), something most people dont want.
