Been working on several large restoration projects. And all of them are coming to completion this week. Sometimes, you have to work on them for a bit and then step away and later resume the work. It takes fresh eyes at times. Each and every one is a challenge in its self. Each has its own story as to what caused the damage and each needs had its own approach to saving it. This is a Ca. 1850s Plateau young womans sized pony beaded dress. It was heavily water damaged, and sometime in its past the leather bottom and sleeve ends were cut off of it. The original dress was done out of Mt. Sheep hide. I rebuilt the dress as well as I could with existing materials ( this time, due to difficulty of finding Mt. Sheep I used brian tanned deer which had to be precut and aged ) and restored and re-beaded the sleeve ends as well as restored the missing beads. A labor of love in many ways….but I hope I did justice to this dress in saving it. Someone made this 160 years ago as a show of love for another. Hopefully they approve.
