Beers and Croctales: part 2 So my story begins last night back in Carnarvon. Once I had decided to pull myself out of my heart broken chocolate mousse coma, I decided to go in search of bananas, as the town was so renowned for. After driving around for awhile I came to realize, there was no bananas!! What a joke! What is the point of Carnarvon even existing without bananas? I hate when my stereotypes don’t go to plan. After a day of emotions, heart break and disappointment, it was an early night for me. Then the alarm went off. I had no idea where I was, and it took me at least three snoozes on the alarm to figure it out. Whilst getting ready to leave, I contemplated not wearing a bra for the drive. Then I thought, I would scare the fuel attendants and that it was only 2 days in to the trip and I shouldn’t give up that easily caz first it’s the bra, then it’s the pants, and then it’s all downhill until you end up owning 40 cats. My mission today for the drive was to bring back the wave and I think I succeeded with 90% of all drivers responding to the salute. It’s a massive improvement on yesterdays efforts. Early morning driving is certainly very interesting though. Within the first 20km after Carnarvon I spotted a fox and a kangaroo crossing the road, and lots and lots of road kill that resembled the first 20mins of Saving Private Ryan with eagles descending on what’s left of the dishevelled mess. They responded to my horn as there was no way I was going to attempt to coax them off the road. It seemed though that word had spread amongst the cows about the possibility of free Pringles as one cow stared me down for the salty goodness. My stocks were depleted from yesterdays mission, so I used my best crocodile Dundee impression to ensure that cow did not come onto the road whilst I was in its midst, but ensured it would move on after I had passed, which it did! As a human being, I am on top of the food chain, and no cow was going to get the better of me. It was a small, but pleasant win for me. So off on the road I carried on, making my way further through the playlist to the G’s today. I had Olly Murrs new song “Dear Darlin” on repeat about 15 times. It has now become the song that described my situation and makes me think of my boy. Unfortunately having already been through the D’s it is now the song that is putting me to sleep of a night time. There is a reason they say that sometimes the right decision isn’t always the easiest! But I digress… So today I stopped at my first roadhouse to fill up. OMG. It was 1.97 per litre for fuel! I have never been so grateful at that point I do not have an able-to-overtake-cars-quickly vehicle. People were also staring at me like maybe I was lost. Maybe they have never seen a yellow Hyundai getz in the outback?? Anyway, I made it to Panawonnica to see my favourite girl Jo, in now time at all. Only 5 hours on the road today. The shortest day of my trip. Jo took me to her local restaurant and fed me ribs. I think a majority of it ended up on either my hands or my face, but hey, how do you enjoy ribs without making a mess? I then proceeded to embarrass her in the local playground by showing off a few pole moves and playing on the swings and seesaw. I may never be allowed back in this town. Jo then provided me an afternoon of girly catch ups and got me hooked on the tv show Hart of Dixie. Best rest of the trip!!! So now is time for bed. Long day ahead of me tomorrow all the way to WA’s top end Broome. I am already in shorts and singlet in anticipation for the gorgeous heat of Darwin. I am not sure what the WA outback will bring me for my next chapter of beers and crocktales, but I am sure it will be an interesting day no matter what! This is Bec, signing off!
