Before City Council this week is AB15-005 that:This matter is before Council to establish a new exemption for new manufacturing businesses locating in the City during the period of January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2018. This exemption is proposed to encourage the expansion of manufacturing related businesses, especially within the new Howard Street corridor, which is targeting artisan light manufacturing businesses. The exemption would provide an incentive for manufacturing businesses, including those at the port, to locate within the city limits by providing a 100% tax exemption of B&O taxes owed for three years (or 12 business quarters) from the date of the business’ initial licensing in the City. My hope is that this encourages a business or two that would use recycled local material to create something useful for our community. Like newspaper to cellulose insulation, or blue glass into beautiful tiles, etc.
