Before I became a university teacher, which is a miracle, I was a football (soccer) player (I was a basketball player and coach too, but this is another long true story). I was an attacking midfielder, wearing N°6. What I want to say is that I owe my entire career as a teacher and my entire sense of ethics (my life) to my position on the football ground. What I learned from football (soccer) is this: That theres no direct passage toward a given destination without having to go through all kinds of mediation. An excellent illustration of a necessary mediation would be to say that theres no literal language, and that all language is metaphorical, that is, figurative. Metaphor is in language as essential as is a midfielder in a football match. Tunisia has a very bad football team because of a philosophical-linguistic mistake. Tunisian football players nowadays believe they could win a game in which the ball could go directly from the goalkeeper to the striker (who would score a goal). An unforgivable mistake in football, in literature, and in life too !!!
