Before I initiate any local ordinance on raising the minimum wage I want to first initiate a free open public and community discussion to some extent on this matter. I understand this will not win me any popularity points but I also think its very much a discussion that is very much worth having. as has been noted 1 out 4 workers in the Second District- which Bangor and the Bangor labor market is a big part of- are earning the minimum wage. We certainly need more and better jobs but the minimum wage which has been around since 1938 and has not obviously hampered Americas macro economy in any way-todays min wage is lower after inflation than it was in the 70s. I dont know about you but I have always believed that people deserve a decent wage for a decent days work and that they like all of us have a right to employment to help support their families. So lets discuss away and see where this leads us. Thanks, Joe
