Before I introduce this anointed duo, I feel I must backtrack and rewind the past weeks to convey GODS awesome (and specific) sense of timing and purpose. Id planned a surprise family day together but to my surprise (lol!!!), my family already made plans. My wife offered her support for a friends birthday and my baby daughter even had plans with rehearsals, etc., for her choir trip to Atlanta. Truth be told, I was rather irritated because I (now) had a Saturday totally free to myself. I didnt feel like immersing myself in the studio because I do enough of that already. The radio shows were already done for the weekend and I really anticipated hangin out with my family but “oh, well.” I pouted but life goes on, right? Figured I could use some retail therapy and would probably run across something I could use for my studio, etc., so out I go. Now here is where GODS timing comes into play as the story progresses. I choose to pass various malls from Northwest Fort Worth and end up @ Grapevine Mills Mall. Being a creature of habit (some call it OCD but I respectfully disagree – rotfl!!!!), I enter the mall and for some reason, I avoid my normal track of beginning @ Region 1. With an irritated mood as is, I figured: “I may as well do things backwards cuz Im just there to blow off steam...” right? So... I start my journey (in reverse) headed down Region 6. As I get past the food court, I hear these guys singing. Great voices. Awesome harmonies. Didnt think much else about it because they must be on all these video screens that play music videos all day. Simply felt kinda odd cuz their voices didnt fit what this generation typically listens to nowadays but hey... Im movin on from the gigantic food court cuz its too early to eat. I barely enter the next region and see a crowd of people just standing around with active cameras and video phones, etc. I see a stage set up with posters and gear from various participating artists, etc. These two guys are still singing while playing guitar and I begin to notice their versatility as well because they seamlessly transition from heartfelt acoustic tracks to a Bruno Mars song. Okay... my attitude and mood dissipates cuz Im in my element now. I wait for them to finish (@ The Toys For Tots campaign) to simply inform them of how much I enjoyed their set. We find out that we have lots in common. I find out they are ministers of music. They hope GODS will for their lives includes collaborating with producer(s) with honest intent. My only request? I often hope GODS will for my life entails working with artists that will instantly claim a song Ive written (for them) and they personally stamp it as their own. After trading stories, we trade numbers and I ask them to pray about working together. Dont believe or trust me... especially at first meeting as well as considering the many that will approach them in the future. Research. Listen to (or watch) the show. Make sure my spirit is cool and not malicious, etc. I wanted Holy Spirit (not me) to be the one to make them feel comfortable about me and my hope for them. I felt like they simply needed to be heard on the radio and I can facilitate this portion of their dream because GOD only blesses... to BE a blessing to others. A few weeks later, my wife cooks for the guys and these cats came ready to work! My parents, niece and brother had already arrived in town for our family holiday gathering and they got an impromptu mini-concert in the living room. They heard the same thing I did. Not a song but an anointing on the voices of these guys. Why did I share this story? An unexpected change in plans started my day that Saturday. I usually avoid malls (especially lately as Ive gotten older) but still bypassed a few to visit one about an hour from me. If I had stopped for gas or visited my baby brother (in Las Colinas) before the mall visit (instead of later)... If I had simply followed my routine path (@ Grapevine Mills albeit, outside of my comfort zone) and took and hour or so instead of the 20 minutes walking the reverse path... I would have missed the guys brief musical set and we probably do not meet one another that Saturday afternoon. As we introduce these guys and share their gifts for the world to hear, I would like to pause to encourage you with a few thoughts: 1. Do we miss opportunities to experience new or special by clinging to our comfortable (or even familiar) routines? 2. Are we foregoing walking into our promised land/destiny/relationships because wed rather remain in Egypt/comfort zones/the way its always been? 3. Do we know when to simply let go and go with the flow to follow GODS promptings/leading? My hope is that the gentle spirit of D & CHI comes through the song they graciously accepted and allowed me to write/produce on their behalf. Its special (to me) for a couple of reasons, one being that I believe its a congregational worship song that all congregations (regardless of Christian denomination) will be able to sing so we will include the instrumental (for download) as well. Secondly, I try to stay in my lane and dont really consider myself a singer. I write, produce, etc., but when I feel a song is for me (or my wife), I set it aside for us to record unless I hear a better version rendered that I can not pull off believably. This... is that song. Its theirs. They made it their own. We expect to air it on the show in (early) February. It will be available on iTunes, Google+, Amazon or anywhere digital downloads are sold, in a couple of weeks. I will post the song (for a brief period) on The Words Of Life Show Facebook page. The song exalts GOD for so many things HE is to us. Its entitled: YOU ARE. I pray it blesses your spirit as the song... the anointing... and the gift of D & CHI... have mine. Warmest Regards, ~MDI. P.S. - I thank GOD for inspiring my wife... dually. (lol!!!!) She played a major role (as I wrote) because I started on the song prior to meeting the guys and felt like it would be a great congregational, worship track that she and I could do for my second CD project. As I sang my initial ideas to her, she challenged me by requesting that I avoid a specific style (or format) but wanted a simple, catchy song that anyone could sing. Her suggestion is the undercurrent of the songs lyrical arrangement. It was a great idea... thanks babe!
