Before I left Liberia, I posted that I was worried about the ebola - TopicsExpress

Before I left Liberia, I posted that I was worried about the ebola stigma- andt since I arrived, I am feeling the weight. One of my former students decided she could only talk to me on the phone but was not interested in me meeting her personally. I was supposed to visit a friend and stay at his house, but now he will pay for hotel space for me. I called another long time friend who always complained that I do not visit him when I come to the States. He told me to visit him after I have stayed 21 days in the States. Another person suggested that I surrender myself for a blood sample. CNN and NBC are not helping with the constant flashing of the late Sawyers photo on every hourly news, You would think Liberians in the Diaspora with their access to the Internet and other resources would read about the virus, its mode of transmission, and preventive measures--but no-- we who are coming from Liberia are been stigmatized. I planned my leave so I could attend the CUC Reunion and escort my son to college-- now I am wondering what would happen if I showed up in Maryland next week?
