Before I start, I want to state that I am NOT intending to sound sympathetic to racists and this is NOT necessarily my view of racism, only what I believe is the reason of such a divide between white & black people. The reason I am adding a disclaimer to my following comments is because, as a white person, it is often difficult to talk about race out of fear people will see my comments as racist when I am not at all intending them to be. I think the reason is it seems (whether it is true or not) that every instance of a white person wronging (or perceived to be wronging) a black person is automatically looked at by the majority of black people as evidence of racism. Not saying it isnt in a lot of cases, but instead of just automatically seeing this as a white vs black thing lets try to look at it as a person vs person thing until proven it was clearly a white vs black thing. It really bothers me that every issue seems to be slapped with the white vs black label by both whites & blacks. To me that just waters down evidence of TRUE racism and, in my opinion, is a slap in the face to the true victims of real racism. Also people need to also realize that not all victims of racism are black just like not all perpetrators of racism are white. On a related note, but not to this article, it REALLY bothers me when I am around white people who say racist things about black people to me (even more so when they also use the n word) and will assume I share their opinion just because Im white.
