Before I start this here rant, does everyone know where the term Big Brother came from? Understanding how the world was manipulated during World War II, George Orwell (a Socialist) wrote the then futuristic book 1984 where all aspects of society were monitored and controlled by corrupt centralized governments (Whats new, right?) The term used was Big Brother was watching out FOR you. except Big Brother was so highly intrusive into your life that they controlled everything you did and even what you were supposed to think. My profile photographs were taken from the 1959 (I believe) version of the movie 1984. (BTW, the 1956 BBC version is easier to understand if you choose to view them. I unknowingly participated in more our societys Big Bother culture at Rural King in Mattoon on Tuesday. I was exchanging a defective item (Whats new, right?) and was asked for my drivers license. The cashier didnt even look at it and flipped it over and scanned the back of it. Immediately, I saw all of my basic information materialized upon her screen. This is called The Retail Equation. TRE is a nation wide data compiling system setup to keep tabs and tracks what you return. Not only does it track at Rural China King, it keeps a profile tab on you with every retailer that uses the system, ie; Best Buy, Home Depot, J.C. Penney, now Rural China King along with thousands more. The system can also Black Ball and decline your returns at any other retailer set up to use TRE if you get on their shiRt list. Of course people will say, Whats the big deal, if youre doing what youre supposed to do then theres no problem. When an entity has control over you, then you are at the mercy of that entity. If they want to abuse their position then you are in trouble. 1984 is a great eye opener of whats possible, no choice and no recourse for the actions they deem to levy upon you. Also, if people dont feel their private information needs to stay private, then maybe those people should be publicly stripped naked and searched to make sure their not hiding anything. Besides, if they dont have anything to hide, then whats the big deal. The bottom line is what is private needs to stay private. Thank you, this rant has concluded.
