Before, a locked computer meant that you could refuse to give the password to unlock it, thereby "pleading the fifth". However, if we move toward biometrics, the same protection does not apply. Pull quote: "We can’t invoke the privilege against self-incrimination [in the 5th Amendment] to prevent the government from collecting biometrics like fingerprints, DNA samples, or voice exemplars. Why? Because the courts have decided that this evidence doesn’t reveal anything you know. It’s not testimonial."
