Before the next Valenti Modified Racing Series event Friday, June 21, at Stafford Motor Speedway, we look back at more race events from the last ten years. June 18, 2005, Star Speedway hosted the then True Value Modified Racing Series with local driver Louie Mechalides taking down the win Peter Daniels, Ed Dachenhausen, Dwight Jarvis, and Chris Wenzel rounded the top five. Hall of Fame driver Bob Polverari came out of retirement that season and finished sixth at Star. 24-year-old Bobby Grigas III. a rookie on the TVMRS, ventured to Waterford Speedbowl for the first time, and when the checkered flag dropped on the rain-shortened 100 lap feature race, Grigas found himself in victory lane for his first modified win in only his third start on the third year tour. June 17, 2006 was the date. Earlier in the evening, a heavy downpour forced fans to run for cover and race cars to be covered for close to 3 hours. The race was started at 11:23 PM and was stopped on lap 53 due to curfew. Jimmy Dolan, Dale Evonsion, Johnny Bush and Jeff Pearl made up the top five. Ed Dachenhausen, Dave Berghman, Kenny Horton, Tom Fox and Rob Goodenough, finished sixth through tenth. With his young son in the grandstands to watch his Dad race for the first time, Les Hinckley roared to victory, Saturday night, June 21, 2008, at Waterford. The win was Hinckley’s 10th career victory with the TVMRS. Chris Pasteryak, Mike Holdridge, Kirk Alexander, and Vinnie Annarummo followed Hinckley. It was a first in series history as second-generation drivers all from Connecticut swept the top three finishing positions. Hinckley became the first repeat winner in 2010 when he captured the 75-lap feature race for the Modified Racing Series, Thursday night, June 17 at Thompson Speedway. Hinckley bested Ted Christopher, Jon McKennedy Steven Masse, and Eric Goodale And lastly, Mike Stefanik took the lead on the opening lap and went on to win the 75-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event at Thompson Speedway June 16,2011. Rowan Pennink finished runner-up with Chris Pasteryak Steven Masse, and Les Hinckley third through fifth. The race, Stefanik’s second VMRS victory, took only 37 minutes to complete. .
