Before the opening of Utah Opera’s Madame Butterfly, tenor Eric Fennell remarked that it’s Butterfly’s world and the rest of the cast and crew are just living in it. That’s a stretch, because Fennell and everyone else in the Butterfly cast and crew turned in excellent work at Saturday’s opening performance of the classic tearjerker.
