Before turning 40, I was blessed with 20/20 vision. But after - TopicsExpress

Before turning 40, I was blessed with 20/20 vision. But after turning 40, my eyesight steadily went south. Skimmed by with Dollar Store glasses for several years, only needing reading ones. Then last year, when renewing my license, I failed the eye test. Went to the eye doctor, and ordered two pair of glasses, a reading pair, and a driving pair. Decided to go ahead this year, and take the plunge, and order the dreaded..........bi-focals.......... So picked them up today, and took the direct route, slapped them on my face, and let the fates prevail. No breaking in time, no adjusting, just wear them and stumble about as best possible. First off, I am constantly cocking, twisting and swiveling my head/eyes, in an attempt to see through the proper section of lenses. I somewhat resemble a bird, with my head pivoting about wildly. Then there is the matter of curbs, steps and or thresholds. I find myself stumbling over door jambs, and taking extra ordinarily large steps off curbs, only to jar myself, when it is a much smaller distance than I foresaw. Gauging distance, depth and height is a faculty I am not in complete control of at this point in time. So if you see me "goose stepping" along, crashing into telephone poles, and craning my neck about like an egret.......... just remember, she has new bi-focals............
