Before we could get to our hotel, we met these three young people who were talking with other young people about why they are voting Yes on Thursday. What struck us about their motivations is how disconnected they are from the old politics of Westminster. They spoke of the Better Together campaign as totally irrelevant to their concerns of the future. What the YES! campaign has done has given them a place to not just have hope for the future, tangibly have a way to work for it. They reminded me of the young people in 2008 who felt this way towards Barrack Obama. Unfortunately, it was more image over substance. The old politics still rules, with both parties, in Washington and Raleigh. I see nothing in our US context like what I see here. This why what is happening in Scotland this week is bigger that Scotland. It is a political bellwether. More to come
