Before we get to Nanjing, a few words on watching TV in China. - TopicsExpress

Before we get to Nanjing, a few words on watching TV in China. Theres a lot of good cultural programming. Which, like at home, we ignored in favor of awful popular programs, like the one here. (I hope the video is viewable.) Like at home, there are tons of cable channels, at least three of which showed TV shows about Our War With the Invading Imperial Japanese Army nonstop. The Imperial Japanese invasion of China in the 1930s is never forgotten and never will be, based on every time we flipped around to these channels. These werent History Channel-type documentaries, these were scripted modern TV shows with regular TV-type actors. The other noteworthy thing about watching TV here is everything about the remote control is in Mandarin so if you click the wrong button and end up somewhere you dont want to be, you cannot get out of it unless you speak Mandarin, which we dont. To get out of it, there are two methods:The McFarland tried-and-true Just Start Pushing Buttons Until Something Works and Maybe Well get Lucky and it Will Be What We Want technique, or the Hello, were stupid! call to the front desk for assistance. We got to know LOTS of wonderful hotel employees throughout China this way.
