Before you go and build the next best app: 4 things you should know. When I decided to build an app, I had no idea where to start, who to contact, and no idea how to code. I was facing some big obstacles to achieve my goal of building a mobile app. Here are a few keys points that can help you achieve your goal: 1. Share your idea with people. Don’t be afraid to share your mobile app idea with people. You need to get feedback from people to see if the idea is even valid. Also you must realize your idea is not the best thing since sliced bread. The chances of you building an app, and 18 months later its worth 100 million dollars is like winning the lottery twice. When it comes down to it the execution of your idea is the most important part, you are the one with the vision to make it succeed. People will see your passion in your idea and be more willing to help you along. 2. Networking is key. Get out there and meet people, developers, and mentors who can help you make your idea a reality. The biggest challenge of building an app is finding trustworthy people to help develop your idea and turn it into a reality. For me, I try to meet with at least five people a week who can help me achieve my goal. 3. Outsourcing: A few things you should know. Outsourcing your development is a great way to develop a cost effective mobile app. However there are a few things you need to know before you hire a developer overseas. Here they are: 1. Know who owns the code. You need to make sure you are hiring a developer on a work for hire contract. This will make it clear that you own the code. 2. Find people you can trust and do your due diligence. For example, my friend hired a developer in San Francisco who was in fact not a developer at all. He just hired some programmers in India to build the product. In the end things did not work out well. 3. Do not pay up front. Set up a completion schedule to send payments to ensure you do not throw money away. For me, I was able to build an app in five months with great success. More importantly I learned how to build an app from an idea to the app store. 4. Done is better than perfect. The beauty of app development is that you can always improve your product. Do not stress out if the first version of your app is not everything you expected. This is why software updates exist. These things take time to refine and perfect. There is a reason Facebook’s motto is “done is better than perfect.” The ability to have an idea and execute that idea shows a lot about the person. At this point you will be able to move beyond the PowerPoint presentation, and have a viable product you can show people.
