Begin rant. Im not buying the old theres nothing for kids to do in Atascadero complaint. In fact, I find it insulting and a cop-out. I challenge you to ask anyone who grew up there in the 50s and 60s what they did while their parents worked. We used our imaginations. I played with cars and trucks on the dirt roads I created in my yard. I rode my bike to friends homes. We rode bikes, played army, football, baseball and other games. We climbed trees and explored the creek. I got to know a couple of our senior citizen neighbors and managed to learn a few things from them. We took responsibility for our own entertainment instead of insisting that someone create something for us to do. I would not dare to say, Im bored or theres nothing to do. I would have been presented with a long list of things to do. If todays youth are unable to do what we did 50 years ago, then perhaps those who want something for kids to do should organize, pool their resources and create something. Get the youth involved in that process so they can own it. Sitting at the computer and alternating between complaining about how things are today and wringing their hands because nobody is doing anything about it is setting a poor example. End of rant.
