Behave Like a Christian-Part 6: Romans 12:12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; (NKJV) During my childhood the most anticipated event of the fall season occurred when the Sears and Roebuck Wish Book Catalog arrived in the mail. The Wish Book was definitely entitled correctly because that is exactly what every child used it for. Every child I knew went through this book of wishes and circled every possible toy they could ever want and desire for Christmas. Our dreams would be that our parents would see these circled items and obtain them for us. The catalog was not, however, a book of hope because we all knew we would never receive every item we had circled on Christmas morning. In many ways in the end the Wish Book really was a book of fantasy that ended in disappointment. Such is the case when we place our hope and dreams in the things of this world that will disappoint and fail us. Our verse today tells us that we should rejoice in hope. We can rejoice in the future of spending eternity in Paradise with our Lord and Savior. We don’t have to wish for it and live each day in tentativeness or apprehension of wondering if our dreams will come true. Jesus assured us that He was going to prepare a place for us and if it were not true then He would have told us. This joyful hope of knowing that our future is secure and set in stone allows us to be patient in tribulations because we know they are not our final destination. The challenge today is to not treat the Bible as a wish book but to rejoice knowing that it is The Hope Book. David Jones restorationpath.org
