After ten years as an EMT, Thomas knew not every person was going to make it. He’d seen those he thought would live, die. And those with everything in their situation against them survive. At the scene, Thomas worked through the window of the car to get the man’s vital signs. He had a pulse but it was very faint. His new partner, Darla, looked a little sick at heart. “He’s bleeding out,” she whispered. “I hope they can get him out of this car quickly. I can’t even see where the blood is coming from.” The middle-aged man tried to open his eyes as blood trickled down his forehead. He looked at Thomas. “I know I’m going to die and I’m not ready. I need to receive salvation. Can you lead me in prayer?” Thomas looked at Darla and then nodded yes to the man, as the firemen worked to remove the man quickly from the car. As Thomas worked, he led the man in the prayer of salvation. The man struggled to breathe, as he whispered the words Thomas spoke. As Thomas said the word, “Amen,” the man’s body fought for one last breath and died. Thomas rejoiced that God had placed him there, in that moment of time, to pray and guide the man to eternity. Life is fragile. God’s word teaches that today is the day of salvation and eternity can begin at any time. It’s not only imperative that you be ready, but also be prepared to pray with someone to receive the Lord Jesus as their Savior. You might just be their last hope!
