Beijing College Student Film Festival features child autism The Chinese movie industry is focusing the country’s attention on social problems this year at Beijing College Student Film Festival (#BCSFF), as it features #child #autism in a number of #films. Monday saw the beginning of the competition for Best Original Film of the 22nd BCSFF. As a key section of the event, it chose “child autism” as this year’s theme. It is a joint initiative by Chinese actress Tang Wei and director Xue Xiaolu, who hope to raise public awareness of the issue. Xue directed the movie Ocean Heaven in 2010, which is about the love between a father and his autistic son. Tang thinks that film is a good way to portray the feelings of people who have autism, because films are “very direct”. #TangWei has won support from her husband, South Korean director Kim Tae-Yong, who also shot a film on child autism in 2014. Kim is a jury member at BCSFF this year, tasked to judge the Best Original Film category.
