Beijing’s giant ‘Golden Toad’ #Ducks are passé, it’s now the time of the #toad! That’s been the impression of visitors at #Beijing’s Yuyuantan Park, where a massive “Golden Toad” has been installed. The inflatable amphibian is nearly 22 meters high and 34 meters in length. The installation is part of a cultural exhibition organized by the China Culture Relics Protection Foundation in partnership with a company from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. What’s a toad got to do with preserving culture, you ask? Well, the creature has a rich history in Chinese culture. One ancient legend states that Jin Chan, the wife of one of the “Eight Immortals,” was transformed into a toad as punishment for stealing the “Peaches of Immortality.” And then there is the money toad, which is a popular symbol of prosperity, luck and good fortune in #FengShui.
