Being Being (ens) is that which is it is, that which has the act of being (esse). Essence is that which makes a thing to be what it is while act of being (esse) is that which make a thing to be. Being therefore is that which is (ens est id quod est ) that something which is, that thing which exists. Real Being (Ens Reale) A Real being (ens reale ) is a being that exists, in transsubjective reality. Example that real dog that is barking in front of me. Possible Being A possible being is a being that does not actually exist, but is capable of existing. Thus a possible being exist in order of thought not in the order of reality. Being of Reason (Ens Rationals ) An Ens Rationals or Being of Reason is to be understood as that which exist in thought but is incapable of existing as such in the real order. Human reason is able to combine notions each taken separately from reality even thought there combination in a real thing is impossible. Even though those beings of reason exist only in the mind they are nothing, they have a certain actuality which consists of their being thought of by the mind. An ens rationals can either be a first intention being of reason or second intention being of reason. The first intention being of reason can be positive or negative. And the second intention being of reason is the object of logic. A being of reason can be considered as something positive or negative, if negative it is either call a negation or privation. A negation is the denial of a perfection in a being whose nature as no aptitude or need of such a perfection. The fact for instance that a man have no wing is a mere negation. A privation indicates a little more, it is the lack of perfection for which the subject as real capacity (Potency) perhaps for example, blindness in a man is lack of sight in which man has real capacity.
