Being Compassionate In our everyday life, sometimes we meet people who are very uncompassionate. The easier way to respond is to do the same to him. To be compassionate to the uncompassionate person or to love the unlovely is not an easy thing to do. In fact this is where many people fail. But that is what all religions teach us to do, especially Islam. Since I m a Muslims, I will bring the example from Islam. And I welcome anybody from other religion to bring example from yours. The prophet showed kindness to the old lady who had been putting torns, threw rubbish n many more inthinkable things. When the old lady fell ill, he visited her and brought her food. The old lady was moved by his kindness and she stopped behaving badly towards him. This compassionate behaviour was shown by the prophet in every of his dealings. Kind, loving and firm. Being compassionate to the uncompassionate DOES NOT mean we agree with their incompassionate behaviour. Those bad behaviour must be punished. Yet, we do our best to punish the doer of that bad behaviour from the place of love and compassion and not from the place of anger and hatred. Punishment from the place of anger and hatred is just focusing on getting the wrong doer to be punished severely in the hope the wrong doer will be afraid to repeat such behaviour . Punishment from the place of love and compassionate is focusing on supporting the wrong doer to become a better person by giving the most suitable punishment that help the wrong doer to learn, repent and make a decision to correct himself/herself. In raising our child, sometimes we need to punish her too to correct her. This understanding will help us to choose the most suitable punishment so that the punishment builds her. Failing this, will cause you build an incompassionate monster in your child without you intending it.
