Being Discriminated , Kashmiri Sikhs Tell PM =>All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today alleged that members of the Sikh community in Jammu and Kashmir were facing discrimination from successive state governments. “We informed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the problems being faced by the community in the state, particularly in the Kashmir valley, where sikh families had to migrate from their respective villages to towns and cities in 90s, leaving behind everything,” APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said here. He said a delegation of the committee during their meeting with Dr Singh informed him that despite his (PM) orders to the state government to look into problems faced by the community, nothing has changed on the ground. Mr Raina said Dr Singh was also informed that despite being in minority in the state, they were not granted such status till date. “There is also discrimination with Punjabi language as majority post of teachers are vacant in schools, colleges and university for the past more than a decade. Particularly in the Kashmir valley, all schools are without Punjabi teacher with the result students of the community had to suffer,” he added. Mr Raina said, “For higher classes, students had to travel to Punjab or Delhi as there is no teaching staff in colleges and university. “We informed the Prime Minister that during 90s majority Sikh families had to migrate to towns and cities, leaving behind everything with the result losses in agriculture and horticulture,” Mr Raina added that no compensation was paid to them. He said in fact the children of families, who migrated, were not being issued Permanent Resident Subject (PRS) by revenue departments because of which they cannot get employment in government departments. He said besides this, inquiry into Chatisinghpora killings of more than 40 Sikh members has not been completed.
