Being Human Loss is raw and complex, and loss also gives us an opportunity to understand our inner and outer worlds more deeply. Sometimes that depth is beyond any pain we ever imagined and sometimes that depth is so gentle we wonder if it existed before that moment or if it just suddenly appeared at the moment of loss in our life. Even though we try to understand loss through the various filters of our lives, we can never really understand it from the perspective of the person who is suffering from it, but what I have learned is often when we suffer a loss in our life there is little flower waiting to blossom. Sometimes it comes in the form of reconnecting with people we were having problems with, sometimes its an unexpected gift of love and physical presence, sometimes its a material gift that we know came from a deep part of the gifter, sometimes its a phone call, a smile, a handwritten card, and sometimes its the words, How can I help you? To me, these are the blossoming flowers and the beautiful openings that come to us during personal loss. They are the messages that gently say, Youre not alone in this. and for me, thats a beautiful part of being human.
