Being a neighbour is not a positional relationship but a functional relationship. Our neighbour is not that male colleague or woman who lives beside us. No, neighbourhood is not positional. Jesus taught in the story of the good samaritan that a neighbour is not defined by position but by function. You neighbour may be that foreigner in your township you can help with a meal; that gogo you can help clean her house; that widow you can give a complement; that unhappy security man you can share a joke with; that man robbed by bandits and left half dead by the road. You are a neighbour when you help those who may never be able to pay you back. Lord help me to be a neighbour in a tough and difficult world.
