Being a stray pit bull at a shelter in Oakland, I was aware that I may be in for some surprises, maybe some scary moments, and a lot of breed stereo typing from others. But there was something about Jake that seemed to click when Dani and I took him into the play area at Oakland Animal Resources. There has been a couple small chewing incidents while home alone, but thats expected. He has proved incredibly intelligent and trainable. In just 3 weeks hes become very well behaved, and one of the sweetest dogs Ive ever met of ANY breed. We regularly get compliments on how he sits and relaxes while chatting with people on the trail. I love that, because hes now an ambassador of his breed, and may change someones opinion of the breed, that may have previously been rooted in ignorance and myth. Moments like that, when you are surprised or caught off guard in a pleasant way are amazing. There was a time I was chatting with an older (50?) lady at an art show in SF, and we proceeded to have the most ridiculous conversation about graffiti, Revok, Pemex, Terms, Augor and tons more artists. It blew me away, and made my whole night. Live for those moments. They make all the red lights and bills worth it.
