Being a very environmentally conscious person, when CFL light - TopicsExpress

Being a very environmentally conscious person, when CFL light bulbs came out, I replaced my incandescent bulbs with them. I hated CFLs; they werent dimmable and cast a chalk white instead of warm, so I got rid of them all when the dimmable LEDs (light emitting diodes) were introduced. LEDs throw a warm light, contain no mercury, and are fully dimmable which is very important to me because except for a few table lamps, all the lights in my home are on dimmers. Today, one of the 5 remaining incandescent spotlights in my kitchen track lighting gave out. I went to Home Depot and took a chance on a new Philips dimmable LED spotlight. It doesnt look like a regular spotlight...this one has 4 tiny bulbs within the bulb surrounded by metal with an operating life of 22.8 years if used approximately 3 hours a night. One eight 8 watt LED spot equals 50W of incandescent which is the wattage I had with the incandescents, 250w total. I bought 2 spotlights for $29.94, at $14.97 each (yikes) to try them out. Got home, screwed them in, and amazing is the only word I can use to describe them. The warm hue and incredible amount of light they generate really rocks. This aint your daddys spotlight! Im going back for 3 more after dinner for the remaining canisters on the track. Im not exactly sure how long these light bulbs will hold out....maybe the promised 22.8 years or perhaps a little less, but I DO know Ill be a hell of lot older when I have to change the next spotlight.
