Being an indirect flood victim for a very 1st time, there are few - TopicsExpress

Being an indirect flood victim for a very 1st time, there are few things I would like to share: The positive part of facing a disaster: 1. We got a chance to talk and get to know people in our neighborhood. Everyone in the neighborhood start to talk to each other about the updates on flood and share with each other where to reach for help in term of food supply and etc. 2. All take turn to monitor the water level so that we can vacate the house before its too late. 3. All the cars are parked systematically at the hill side with each others help. 4. We share the food supply and no one is being greedy. All take what is necessary only. We send the remaining food supply for those who needs it more. 5. Everyone has the same hope the water level will recede as soon as possible. 6. We are still able to give food to the birds (realized that animals do know when we are going to face a disaster. No bird eat the dried corn on the day our housing area surrounded by water. 7. We are grateful because there people out there who are praying for us (all the time). The ugly part of facing a disaster: 1. Although our house are not affected by flood we are totally not able to use the roads. All are stranded here and none of us expect it to happen. 2. We are unable to sleep peacefully at night due to the fear the water level might increase unexpectedly. There are small kids and old people in the families. 3. There are people who take advantage of the situation. A 5km boat ride is RM 80- 150 (1 way). Where the humanity goes??? 4. There are people who break into grocery shops steal food supply (which I never expect at all). Some even break the cars and steal the petrol (glad that my housing area got people look after the parked cars). 5. We are not able to settle some of very important things due to this unexpected situation. These are some of the things I would like to share as an indirect flood victim (water did not reach house yet disconnected physically from outside world). We are running out of fresh food supply. It had been 5 days we are stranded here. For now just hope that the water will recede. Our prayers and thoughts with other flood victims who are facing more worst situation. Just hope our nation will stay strong and face all the challenges as 1 nation.
