Being behind a booth in front of a crowd is incredibly - TopicsExpress

Being behind a booth in front of a crowd is incredibly nerve-wrecking from amateur and pro DJs.. There are two ways this could go.. The first being A DJ set is a pre-planned set which many newer DJs do, as they are able to practice the adjustments, cue-in/cue-outs, whatever other tricks they do before they play live in front of the audience. This gives them a bit more courage and ease when it comes to playing life for the audience. When DJs play a "live" set, however, such as I do at my residency, you play as you go. You pick tracks which are NOT planned depending on how you "read" the crowd. You can always look and see if the crowd needs a break or is ready to dance their asses off and play accordingly. Thats what makes a true DJ, the ability to play live and read the crowd. Now, let me add that in the past few years a "Live" set can also mean a setup using software known as Ableton Live for their mixing. This is not simple "virtual DJ" software, as it allows you to get as advanced as you want, enabling live remixing of songs, mash-ups, genre changes with little BPM (beat per minute) change, etc. In this case you may use a MIDI controller for controlling the music but you normally do not (but can) mix "old school" (CD players & turntables) methods while doing it.
