Being caught up in life and its undertakings is often a distraction from pursuing bigger things like the case of Rolf Kaestel. YES, there are much bigger things in life than the perfunctory tasks of working, moving, cleaning, homework, exercising and all of those other things that make life seem normal for many of us. Concern for justice and genuine respect for people is, sadly, not considered normal in our society at times. Those of us who recognize the need for reform within the justice system are often written off as foolish crackpots by the very people who are so highly entertained by Orange is the New Black and Oz, yet cant acknowledge the reality that the USA houses around 25 percent of the worlds prisoners while representing maybe five percent of the worlds population. When I observe citizen after citizen so easily romanticized by fictionalized versions of unjust incarceration but refusing to even contemplate actual instances of corruption and unjust sentences, I am certain that I AM NOT THE CRACKPOT. Rolf Kaestel is an incarcerated human being who chose to speak truth with loss of any chance of freedom as the price. How do we ignore this so easily in our universe of perfunctory tasks and still sleep at night?
