Being judgmental towards one another is so easy and has become so - TopicsExpress

Being judgmental towards one another is so easy and has become so commonplace among society. Even those who proclaim loudly that they are men and women of faith fall into this trap. In the Gospel of Saint Mathew (Mathew 7: 1-5) we are compelled to be very cautious about casting judgment on another. Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye. Understand that the sinful judgments about people or circumstances that we are talking about is not the decision making processes that we may equate with the courts or in situations where determinations are made established upon factual data. The judgment that we speak of is a smug non-Christ like approach to persons or situations based on little to no facts whatsoever. It is usually grounded in simple yet harsh words and/or actions towards others designed to promote the importance of oneself in the eyes of others while at the same time taking tearing apart another. This can be often seen by drawing attention to any negative aspects, adverse situations, weaknesses, and downfalls of others. While at the same time telling the world how good and important they are. The sad truth is that many of the comments and assumed facts regarding many judgments lie nowhere in the realm of truth. The miserable reality is that building oneself up for the sake of personal gain at the expense of others is a terrible sin. Being judgmental tears down and destroys the Body of Christ which is the Church.
