Being on the road gives me lots of time for introspection. Today, at lunch, I sat alone. I was the only patron for a brief time. Its an old restaurant. The muzak, or more likely Sirius channel, was playing late 60s, early 70s hits. It was a walk down memory lane. Then, they played the Rachmaninoff piece from Somewhere In Time. m.youtube/watch?v=59GQbd8CEO4 Ever a favorite of mine, I listened with rapt attention. The scenario of bidding time return wound through my thoughts. What would you do over? What would you do again? Could you make those choices, changes. I felt melancholy and yet, satisfied. Tonight, at dinner, different restaurant. Different music. Not alone. I watched numerous couples, families, generations interact. One in particular. A grandfather, daughter and her three daughters and a baby. He was ina wheelchair. His left arm hung useless at his side. I know not his story, how he came to be there. But, I saw the bitter, mean-spirited, contemptuous way he treated ALL of them. Sad. And they loved him, you could tell. What memories will they keep of him? What legacy will he leave behind? 😢
