Being outspoken and not a Yes-Man or Yes-Woman is good in the abstract, but bad in the concrete. People in authority will tell you they dont want to be surrounded by Yes-Men or Yes-Women, but that only lasts as long as the person in authority isnt challenged by a No answer he/she receives from one of these outspoken people. In order for a No answer to be heard, the person saying No usually has to say it loudly & forcefully, meaning the person in authority will be offended, & the person saying No will be looked at as an unprofessional ass. The person in authority will automatically look for people who are more professional, which means Yes-Men and Yes-Women almost to a fault. Of course I am generalizing, there are specific instances where there are good leaders who really DO want to hear the negative sides of things and really DO want to hear the truth with the bark on. But as a rule, this is (I think), true.
