Being part of a live music club scene is difficult for a working musician.. Especially in todays times where people arent into live music like they use to be, the pay scale hasnt increased in decades and the clubs dont have much money to spend on entertainment.... Theres a whole lotta stuff to gripe about, but we have to ask ourselves, are we doing everything we can do as musicians and band leaders not to contribute to this live music decline.? ....I work and have worked in a lot of different situations over the years and too many of them are bands and artist that have been playing the same songs, the same way for years... Some have even done the exact same set list/song order night after night... Unless you are playing for a totally different crowd every time you play, people get tired of hearing the same crap every time they come out to listen... Plus as a musician, that kills all of your creativity and excitement about playing.... We are supposed to be excited about playing music and having fun... That translates to the audience... Thats the whole reason people come out to see a live band in the first place, to feel that energy that we are putting out... We cant do that when things are stale and stagnant.... You have to keep things fresh by constantly learning new material, take some of your standard tunes and rearrange them, maybe think about permanently dropping some song off your list you have been playing for eons.... Its hard enough being a musician, lets not deter people further from supporting live music by our own laziness and complacency....
