Being woefully unaware of Wikileaks, I cant comment on the legitimacy of THE FIFTH ESTATE. As a film, however, at least based partially in reality, its fascinating, unnerving and inspiring. Seeing the rise and fall of Assange paints a grim picture of the times, in an era whentransparency are increasingly hard to achieve, and government faces Orwellian criticism. It also depicts the real fragility of idealism, and how the world isnt as black and white as wed like it to be. Often throughout the film I couldnt decide who was in the right and what I would do in the same position, grateful it engaged me in such a manner. The cast is also great, always a joy to see Benedict Cumberbatch in anything, but also complimented by the likes of Stanley Tucci, David Thewlis and Peter Capaldi (future Doctor Who!). Regardless of what the truth of all this is, it does make you think on it actively, and that alone is a triumph...and, as Assange himself says, its good to hear sometimes that ...courage is contragious.
