Belfast titans Gacys Threads team up with Switzerland’s own COLOSSUS FALL to release their brand new 7” Split. Yes I called Gacy’s Threads “Titans” but I would like for someone to argue against this statement! This year has been a good year for the guys. Their drummer Stephen Currie remains busy with his label Savour Your Scene and still found the time to create and run the Voodoo Fiend Club with guitarist Blane Doherty, bassist Jonny Monro is keeping himself busy with his recording company Bearcat Studios while vocalist Aaron Vance has been living the highlife in Thailand and recently got engaged. But while all of this has been happening they have all successfully completed a three day Irish tour with ZOAX and Cancer Bats and most recently released their newest record! Busy year indeed! I guess its time I stopped babbling and start telling you all about their recent material then. Side A – Gacy’s Threads: Plague Wielder – Opening with Aaron Vance spitting a gut wrenching “PLAGUE WIELDER” and being followed with Gacy’s fast and aggressive style of music, this 2 minute 20 second song was a perfect choice to kick things off. Before hearing this song I considered, like many “Black Heart” to be my favourite song from the Gacy’s catalogue, but it has now been knocked down a peg as this song has everything that you would want to hear on a Gacy’s record, with a similar style to bands like Converge or The Dillinger Escape plan. It also features a brutal break down that has its own potential to cause anyone to suffer from sever whiplash. Check it out at the 58 second mark! Salvation – Gacy’s slow things down with their second and last track featured on the split, but not for long. With a cool 40 second intro that continues to build up some tension before Gacy’s pull out another blast of energy that continues throughout the song. Salvation, to me has a really cool Groove Metal feel to it at the beginning that leads into fast and furious punk sounds filled with all the experimental metal that you can shake a stick at. This may not be my favourite track that Gacy’s have released but it certainly is a great song. Side B - Colossus Fall: Bullseyes – Taking the same approach that Gacy’s did, Colossus Fall jump right into things with a blast of velocity and aggression reeling you in and not letting you go. Not long into the track Bullseyes starts to go in many directions, with fast hardcore riffs like Coilguns and then switching to slow deep grunge like riffs that leave you wondering what is coming next. This being the first song I have heard from Colossus Fall I was quite impressed. Never Forget – Continuing with the slow deep grunge like riffs Colossus Fall wraps things up with a track that left me kind of wanting more. It felt as if it was leading up to something constantly and then it did, but only for a brief while, with a blast of hardcore energy at the 3 minute 21 second mark. This truthfully made the track for me. Not because the rest of the song isn’t good, I just love my music fast…really fast! Having never heard Colossus Fall, I was excited to be introduced to a new band and was very happy to hear that they had a similar sound to Gacy’s. With both bands offering incredible Experimental Hardcore/Metal tunes that will entertain you for weeks to come I strongly advise that you go and get yourself a copy! 4/5
