Belgium pays the best prices for Spanish tomatoes According to data elaborated by Hortoinfo and obtained from Fepex and the Spanish Tax Agency, of the 20 countries in the European Union which received the majority of Spanish tomato exports during the first five months of 2013, Belgium is the one paying the highest prices, with an average of 1.10 Euro per kilo, followed by Finland, with 0.99 Euro per kilo, and Sweden, with an average price of 0.96 Euro per kilo. The list continues with Denmark (0.90 Euro/kilo) and Latvia (0.88 Euro/kilo). The country paying the lowest prices was Romania, with only 0.38 Euro/kilo, right behind Slovenia, with 0.43, Portugal, with 0.44 and Lithuania, with 0.45 Euro/kilo. The main importers By volumes, the number one destination for Spanish tomatoes was Germany, with a total of 120.46 million kilos, for which it paid 95.93 million Euro at an average price of 0.80 Euro/kilo, taking the number seven spot in the prices ranking. France reached second place in terms of volumes, with 84.17 million kilos, for which they paid 50.72 million Euro. France was tenth in the prices ranking, with an average of 0.60 Euro/kilo. The third position was for the United Kingdom, as it purchased 81.08 million kilos of tomatoes, with a total value of 48.23 million Euro and an average price of 0.59 Euro/kilo, taking the eleventh position in the prices ranking.
