Believe it, Unity express itself as an old fashioned revival under the genious/touched/musicianship of such folk as the very Rev. Dale Worley and his protégé Georgia Kyle in a place adjacent the deep south (South Carolina, none deeper) on a Saturday night. I was there, I am a witness. Rev. Dales invocation was in the exact same melodic Tennessee accent you would hear Coleman Barks read his versions of Rumi. This was about the beloved. Synchronistic that Rev.Dale spent time among Sufis? We were invited to go high and deep and we did so! Led by Rev. Dale on Vocals and piano, there were Georgia Kyle on kick-donk guitar, another guitar, a bass, a drum kit, a digital drum kit and a man from North Carolina that played flute beautifully, but whose blues harp was second only to the likes of a Charlie Musselwhite. Whole house rocked much of the time but there was a center of silence here, unrivaled by a Society of Friends meeting under a roof with two feet of snow upon it in Concord, Massachussetts. House full of love! Word was out I guess, folks from all over the south (yes, that means Alabama too) were represented with a contingent of two from Cape Cod, MA as well. Emptied my pocket into the love offering bowl but never paid less for such a fine concert. Thank you Unity of Savannah! And thank you Becky who made sure we were well fed before this most auspicious event, promised to be the first annual! Instead of Musselwhite Im sharing this clip, in part because most of you have never heard a French girl play blues harp, this is a tip of the hat to the harp player brother Coomb (a French name), but more because her stage presence here better captures the sweetness behind it all.
