Believe it or dont BUT,,, I thought of this DECADES ago while commuting in the Bay Area both by car and by rail (BART)... My concept was a bit more advanced as it would entail small amusement ride cars for up to 4 people dispatched from stations into the flow... Picture small ROLLER COASTER wagons enclosed against weather inserted from a side rail to an empty slot that are then side tracked at the selected destination(s) to disgorge those getting off... Basically I envisioned SCALING DOWN the size of commuter trains and smaller stations to increase the flow and cut waiting times...
