Believing in something because it makes sense to you is - TopicsExpress

Believing in something because it makes sense to you is intellectual treason. Many things that make perfect sense to us in our teenage years look crazy to us in our 20s. Things that make perfect sense in our 20s seem absurd in our 30s. And even more so in our 40s. If our beliefs change over time then they are rooted in temporary feelings, not facts and definitely not truth. People hold to many things believing them to be true because they want them to be true. Or because someone else told them and this new information seems to make sense. It seems we are slowing losing our ability to logically reason things through to sort out the fact from the opinion; and no, Im not referring to true stories on the internet. The Big Bang Theory is presented as fact yet few take into account that if it is true then why do spiral galaxies exist since we know spinning motions destroy such structures? Or why are not all the planets in our solar system spinning in the same direction? If planets are capable of capturing moons due to their gravity then why do we only ever observe sling-shot actions? And why cant we calculate a capturing trajectory to prove it is possible? Maybe, theres a bigger picture. Maybe it is important to know why you believe what you believe. Maybe in the end the whys will be more important than the whats. Because maybe if you were too busy being entertained to take a second look at why you believe what you believe, then you just might end up believing someones lie rather than Someones truth.
