Bella Coast on Route 202 in North Wilmington covers the Italian - TopicsExpress

Bella Coast on Route 202 in North Wilmington covers the Italian basics: pizza, sandwiches, pasta. There are classics, but some get a little trendy lift. Consider veal spezzato with a pepper-and-tomato stew over steel-cut polenta. Chicken saltimbocca has kale along with tomatoes and cippolini. Given that the Sugrues alsoo own Big Fish and a wholesale division, I went with salmon. It was nicely cooked. I was surprised, though, at the pickled onion garnish, which made me think of fish tacos not Italian fare. I opted for a (big) side of cheesy steel-cut polenta. I was expecting the sliced kind, but this was rich and creamy. Husband got the chicken parm, which he liked, but noted that the chicken was on the darker side of golden. We got Caesar salads and an arugula salad. These were small portion prices but large salads. You could share. So, good for kids. Better than Italian chains. Good for dates if you dont care about candlelight or lack thereof. Its not Antica, but doesnt try to be. This is a Big Fish demographic. We had a waitress whose voice and mannerisms reminded us of Melissa McCarthy or Rosie ODonnell. She turned out to be a hoot. bellacoast/food
