Below are a couple of items concerning fundraising for the Northants Disability Cricket Squad. I am a supporter of the squad and I hope some of my Facebook friends could help by putting your hands in your pockets once more to help out this fantastic fundraising effort. Louise has very kindly sent details of both events and I would urge you to read through them and then take part and help David, Chris and Alex achieve their target. The 2nd Northants Disability Squad v Help for Heroes game is taking place at the County Ground on Friday 22nd August. Format is pretty much as last year although therell be no advance ticket sales, just payment at the (Abington Avenue) gate on the evening. Food will be available, similar to last year I understand. As before, all monies raised will be for Help for Heroes. Should be a great evening (fingers crossed for the weather!!) and hopefully raise lots of money for an amazing cause. Further details from David Towler 07756 271444. David and the boys are shortly setting off on their round the country cricket jaunt to raise funds for the Friends of Northants Disability Cricket, which is a newly registered charity aiming to promote the playing of cricket by disabled men, women and children of all ages. The Friends’ first challenge is to raise £30,000 to enable the Northants Disability Cricket Squad to take advantage of an amazing opportunity to undertake a ground-breaking tour of Dubai in February 2015 when they will be joined on the trip by cricketers representing Help for Heroes. They will experience Dubai ’s state of the art training facilities and be given the chance of a lifetime to play and train like professional cricketers, playing a number of matches against disabled and able bodied teams. All monies raised will help subsidise the cost of the trip for squad members. The Northants Disability Cricket Squad is a pan-disability squad of male and female cricketers aged from 14 to 50 with a wide range of physical, learning, visual and hearing disabilities. The Squad was set up in 2012 under Head Coach, Andy Hill with players identified from coaching sessions in schools and disability groups. The Squad has given its members the chance to take part in competitive sport and to represent their county. All the cricketers have to overcome challenges not faced by most players, but being a member of the Squad has improved their skills and raised the self-confidence of all of the group and it has become an important part of their lives. The Squad has also become a valuable support network for the parents and guardians of the members. One member of the Squad is Lewis who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Lewis was selected for Northants Disability Squad by Andy Hill who spotted his fielding talents whilst running sessions at Lewiss school. Lewis was one of the first members of the Squad and has been fully active in its establishment in the community. We were particularly proud when Lewis was identified as a potential future England player in 2013 and was invited to train with the England Squad. Between Monday 11th and Thursday 14th August, David, Chris and Alex will be driving around the country to see all 18 first class county cricket teams play in matches at 10 different grounds. They have devised a competition where, for £1 you’ll get 3 chances to win: 1) guess the number of miles they’ll drive, starting from the first ground in Scarborough until arrival at Lords Cricket Ground. Their route is as shown under “Timetable” on the attached and they will be driving home to Wellingborough on the Monday and Tuesday nights and driving up to Chester-le-Street for an overnight stop on Wednesday. I should warn you though that David has no Sat-Nav, is prone to getting lost and, of course there will be diversions as they hunt for the local Burger King en route! 2) guess the total number of runs that will be scored in all 10 matches (runs for the whole match….not just those they’ll see whilst they’re at the ground….each match is 50 overs per side (that’s a total of 6000 balls for the cricket uninitiated)) 3) finally, you’ll get a raffle number (no guessing involved you’ll be pleased to learn!) Prizes include: v Cricket memorabilia v 2 tickets for either the British Touring Car Championship or the British Superbike Championship at Silverstone v Cricket coaching sessions v Store vouchers v Restaurant vouchers v A BBQ for 10 people (all food provided and cooked at your house) v Chocolates v Champagne and wine If you would like to support the competition please e-mail me (louise.towler@btinternet) with the following information: Name Contact Number Address (incl postcode) Confirmation you’re happy to Gift Aid your entry money Your mileage guess Your no of runs guess and I’ll then allocate you a raffle number. Entry fee is £1 (you’re very welcome to have multiple entries!) and you can either send a cheque payable to “Friends of Northants Disability Cricket” to me at 3 Glenfield Drive, Great Doddington, Wellingborough, Northants NN29 7TE or pay by text via Just Giving by texting to 70070 with the message FNDC11 (that is FNDC Eleven) followed by the amount you wish to send. So if you wanted to send £10 you would text FNDC11 £10 to 70070 All texts have Gift Aid added. The amount is then added to your phone bill.
