Below are some details about a few of our youth athletic summer programs that begin in the next few weeks. Half Pint Soccer and Basketball The Washington Park District is offering a preschool soccer/basketball program for boys and girls ages three to four years old. Participants will spend 3 weeks learning the basics of soccer and three weeks learning the basics of basketball. The children will receive small group instruction with an emphasis on constant motion. The summer 6 week 30 minute session is offered Monday mornings beginning June 9; Tuesday afternoons beginning June 10 and Thursday mornings beginning June 12. All sessions will be at the Washington Recreation Facility located at 105 South Spruce St. in Washington; the fee is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. The Washington Park District summer line-up includes a very popular soccer clinic for boys and girls ages 5 and 6. Instruction includes the fundamentals of soccer through drills and fun activities to your budding soccer players. The 6 week 45 minute session is scheduled to begin Monday June 9 or Wednesday June 11. The clinic will be held at the Washington Middle School Soccer fields. The fee is $40 for residents and $45 for non- residents. The academy will focus on soccer fundamentals stressing technique through drills and fun activities. The academy will be at the Washington Middle School Soccer fields. The program fills quickly so please register early. Pass, Dribble and Shoot The Washington Park District is offering a basketball clinic for boys and girls ages 7 to 9 years of age. Coach Bob Facker will be instructing the participants in the fundamentals of passing, dribbling and shooting the basketball. The clinic will begin Monday July 21-Thursday July 24 from 8:30-9:45 AM in the Mike Adams Gymnasium at the Washington Park District Recreational Facility. The fee is $40.00 for residents and $45.00 for non- residents. Volleyball Basics The Washington Park District is offering a volleyball clinic for boys and girls ages nine to eleven beginning Monday June 9 through July 14 from 1:30-2:30 PM at Five Points. Instruction will include the basics of serving, passing, setting and hitting thru drills and limited play. The fee for residents is $35.00 and for non-residents $40.00. Participants should wear shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes, and knee pads. The class fills quickly so please register early. Questions please contact the Washington Park District at 444-9413.
