Below is a scene from a recent episode of Newsroom. When I saw it, I thought they might be pushing the edge a little bit, but I did not think it was completely out of line. Here is a Mother Jones article that fact checks the scene (and, unfortunately, it is pretty accurate): motherjones/blue-marble/2014/11/climate-desk-fact-checks-aaron-sorkins-climate-science-newsroom One thing that I did not know was this: If we want to keep the temperature increase to under 2 degrees by mid-century, which is a real tipping point. Then we can only release another 565 gigatons of carbon dioxide (cO2) into the atmosphere. Oil and Gas companies CURRENTLY have over 2,700 gigatons in their reserves... so 80% of this needs to stay unused. What do you think the odds of that are? So, if we keep going along as we are.. it is estimated that the temperature will rise between 4 and 8 degrees by the time I die. He is absolutely right.. we are very screwed. So, what can we expect to see in the near future: Mass migration, food and water shortages, spread of deadly disease, endless wildfires, storms that have the power to level cities. 39% of Americans live near the coastline and as he says in the piece humans cant breathe underwater. Those are two very important facts for Americans to consider. https://youtube/watch?v=YQ9_2K2_z3A
